THE STRIKE CONFERENCE. ABTESIAN WELLS STRUCK. MILDURA IRRIGATION COLONY. Sydney', May 9. The Southern Owners' Association confer next Wednesday with the Miners' Conference, to be held at the request of the latter, and the subject to be discussed is an advance on the hewing rate. Enormous artesian wells have been found near Walgett, yielding 5,000,000 gallons daily. They are the largest yet found in the colony. Melbourne, May 9. The Premier says that the statement by the Minister of Agriculture to the effect that the Government would assist Mildura as long as necessary, was not warranted. The Government will, he adds, give temporary relief until the Commission submits its report. If the latter is adverse the Government will then have seriously to consider what to do in the matter. Adelaide, May 9. The Government have decided to immediately order six Maxim guns.
