They are believed to be the remains of a deaf and dumb man named Fleming, who lived with the Maoris, and who has been missing for twelve months. At a meeting of the committee of the Society for the - Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the matter of dehorning cattle was considered. As it appeared to be the opinion of veterinary surgeons that the practice is a very painful one if performed after the horns are grown, and by no means necessary, it was decided to take action against any person exercising such a course. A complaint as to some of the sheep trucks on the railway being too low was referred to the Miniat r for Railways.
