THE LATE SIR H. PARKES.
THE FUNERAL.
AN IMPOSING TRIBUTE
AN AFFECTING SCENE
Sydney, April 29. The funeral took place to-day. It took the shape of a national tribute to the memory of the deceased statesman, and the scene was most impressive. The route from Kenilworth to the city was lined with mourners, and most of the houses were draped. The route along which the cortege passed was densely crowded. The hearse and two carriage 3 were completely hidden by beautiful wreaths, and escorted by a guard of mounted troopers.
The Governor's carriage was present ; also of those of Ministers and members of both branches of the
Legisture. The Civil Service was represented by all the heads of departments, while innumerable private vehicles follower A special train conveyed the coffin, and a large number of friends and members of Parliament to Faulcmbridge, in the Blue Mountains, a beatiful spot chosen by deceased as his last resting place. The scene at the grave was most affecting.
