SERIOUS CHARGE.
ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO BRIBE A PREMIER.
London, April 29,
Under date March 19, Mr Kingston, Premier of South Australia, has published a letter to the effect that a certain ex-member of the House of Commons had called on him in Adelaide respecting the establishment of a company to work a large area of country in the Northern territory, and made certain pecuniary overtures to him. Further, that he had showed the exmember the door and written to Earl Kintore, from whom the visitor had brought a letter of introduction, explaining the matter, and also written to the Agent-General if he had the hardihood to call on him to " kick him out."
Mr Hugh Watt, ex-member for Camlachie, Glasgow, who apparently takes the letter as a reflection iJpon himself, describes the letter as an electioneering dodge, and contrary to fact.
He intimates that he is replying in extenso by mail.
