EXPRESSIONS OF SYMPATHY.
[Speclul to Standard.]
Sydney, April 28
A subscription of some £9OOO was raised by the people of New South Wales for the benefit of the deceased and his family. The interest from this sum was at the disposal of the late Sir Henry Parkes. The capital amount will now be distributed to the children of the first marriage, according to the provisions of the trust. This will mean that the children of the second marriage, of whom there are two, and the present Lady Parkes are left unprovided for.
Messages of sympathv have been received by Lady Parkes from all parts of the colony, including one from the Premier of New Zealand.
Government officials have been invited to attend the funeral.
Over fifty wreaths arrived yesterday, including emblems from Governors Hampden, Glasgow, Carrington, and all the Colonial Governments.
