Mr Clarkson, Government Engineer of South Australia, who was despatched to make an independent examination of the steamer Wendourie on behalf of the Sangster Enquiry Board, stairs that the bunkers were so thin thai it

was dangerous to carry coal m ilicm. He eould knock a hole through anywhere with a hammer. The frairui was almost eaten through, and he found serious cracks in the combustion chambers. The boU€r<? and decks were very thin in many places, and all the boilers were leauiug.
