Bowing Notes.
A series of races took place last evening under the auspices of the Gisborne Bowing Club.
F. Clayton had an easy victory over E. Lewis, in ihs single sculls, and this evening meets Martin for the final.
In ihe'double sonlls Parker and H. Johnston were beaten by T. Adair and Percy Matthews, after a splendid raoe. In the second beat Cosgrove and Hope had a rather easy contest with G. Johnstone and E. Matthews. The final will therefore be pulled off this evening between Adair and Cosgrove, A meeting of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was held last night, ifid general business was transacted. The following pairs were drawn for the club’s single sculls to be rowed this evening and to-morrow evening:—This evening J. Thompson meets J. Reed, and A Thompson meets E. Sand* lant; on tYednesday evening J. Lee meets W. Walters, and J. Walters rows the bye. The final will be contested on Thursday evening.
The Poverty Bay Club are arranging for a social on the evening of the 31st, aa a compliment to the rowing visitors from Auckland ant) Napier. The entertainment proposed is far superior to the relfiab amojee concert, at which the company of ladies Is not permitted.
