PATUTAHI V. GISBORNE.
A BETUHN match Patutahi v. Gisborne was played at Te Hapara on Saturday afternoon. The pleasure was, however, somewhat marred by rain which started towards the end of the Patutahi’s first innings, and continued more or less through the remainder of the match. A few ladies who by their presence graced the beginning of the match were driven away by the inclemency of the weather. Mr Evans captained Patutahi, and Mr A. Rees Gisborne. The former went to the wickets first and made 47. Gisborne then replied with 45. Patutahi went to the wickets again, but when they had lost seven wickets for 25 runs (Bolton, b Perrin, 13; Branson, not out, 5) play was stopped, at about a quarter to six, and the match decided on the first innings, thus leaving Patutahi a winner by two runs. As each team now has a win, it is proposed to play a deciding match in about a month hence. The teams played 17 a side on Saturday, but Gisborne only fielded 12, the others being taken on to bat to make the number the same as their opponents. The following are the scores of the respective sides :— Patutahi—Stewart, b Gold Smith, 1; Bolton, c Rees, b Gold Smith, 1; C.
