THE SEWING COMPETITION,
THE QUESTION OF THE BONUSES,

At a meeting ot tha Education Board yester. day morning, the report respecting the sewing competition showed that Eleanor Biasett, of Waipukurau, had gained the prize (ladies' workbox) for gentleman's nighivbirt, with the full niimbar of mirks (100). Fiorrie Caldwell, of Napier, gained the prize (sewing machine) for patching and seating old trouaers; with the full number of marks (100). There was only one oompstitor tor darning, and the work was considered ot such a poor description that no prize was awarded. An application from the Gisborne School for tbs Board to hire a room was not acceded
Tbe Board uiscuasel at great length the bonus question, and instructed tha Secretary to draw up a report on the basis that the bonus shall be halt the usual rate, and be estimated on the following scale:—That assistant teachers in large schools be paid on a per oentage of the standard results, and the head master on the gross results ot each school; in standard examinations no school to participate unless the passes reach 45'par cent of the total number attending the school at the time of the examination.
