NAPIER NEWS.

A BOYISH FBEAK. MR GOODALL AND THE HARBOR BOARD. REDUCING RENTALS ON POVERTY BAY GRAZING RUNS. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Napier, last night. Yesterday two lads employed in the Daily Telegraph office—James Cole (17) and Arthur Palmer (19)—were playing in the dinner hour. Palmer had a pea rifle or cat destroyer, and Cole stood to be shot at, the distance being about 60 yards. The lads did not think any injury would result. The ballet, however, struck Cole on the chest inflicting a wound under the right nipnla, Ho was taken to the hospital, but as he became feverish it could not be ascertained whether the bullet had penetrated his body or glanced off. To-day the lad was much better, and an attempt will be made this evening, or to morrow, to search for the bullet, and extract it if it has penetrated into the flesh.

At a meeting of the Harbor Board yesterday, a letter was read from Mr Goodall, Engineer to the Board, to the effect that in accordance with the notice given to him, his engagement would terminate on the 30th inst. Mr Goodall of course intended to convey that he would not accept the salary of £5OO year (instead of £1000), which the Board decided when giving him notice, should be the salary appertaining to the office in future. The Board passed a resolution asking Mr Goodall to withdraw the letter, and continue to act as Engineer for three months, during which time the Board hoped to arrange with Mr Goodall to continue ia his office, or effect some other arrangement. At a meeting of the Waste Lande Board to-day, a reduction of rental of small grating runs in tbe Poverty Bay district was considered, the rent having been computed in error at 8 per cent., inatsad of t| per cent, The following reductions were made• No, 88, from £72 6s 6d to £36 3s 3d, No. 59, from £74 18s to £37 6a Bd.
