THE PANAMA CANAL.
RUMORS OF FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES M. TEARFUL A GOVERNMENT GUARANTEE. Paris, Dec 13. Crowds surged round the offices of the Panama Canal Company yesterday owing to a rumor of financial difficulties in connection with the undertaking. There was a very excited scene, and M. de Lesseps tearfully appealed to Frenchmen to Sive the enterprise. M. Fioquet, who has been consulting experts in reference to the Panama Canal scheme, announced in the Chamber of Deputies to day that should the Panama Canal lorn fail, the Government would guarantee the necessary amount to oarry the undertaking to a successful issue.
