Hospital Sports.

A meeting ef the Hospital Sports Committee was held last night, Mr R. Watson in the chair.

Mr W. Brassey, solicitor, wrote : “ Mr James Craig, has requested me to write von with reference to a damage he has suffered at> the hands of your Committee, he informing me that he purchased the right to sell refreshments pertaining of course to his business as a confectioner, but that by reason of your Committee having permitted other persons to travel and vend outside their privileges, Mr Craig has suffered damages. 1 may say that Mr Craig complains (and, I think, justly so) that if he pays for a privilege, he should be supported in his right, and that others who may acquire a s-and for different purposes should not be permitted to usurp or take a portion of the trade acquired by him. It has happened that when the refreshment site was sold, that other persona (notably the fruit stand proprietor) sold that which alone Mr Craig should have had the benefit of, therebv causing Mr Craig a loss, because when he p-iid for the right it must be p ain that he only purchased for himself and that it was the duty of the Committee (the vendors) to see that Mr Craig had full benefit from his purchase. I have to request that jour Committee will take this matter into your consideration and also notice this letter. After some discussion it was resolved that while the Committee recognised no liability in the matter they regretted that any cause for complaint should have arisen, and every precaution would be taken to prevent the necessity of such a complaint in the future. The net result of the day was stated to be £33 9s which, with the Government subsidy will give some £72 to the Hospital.
