FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

By an advertisement published this morning it will be seen that a meeting has been convened for Saturday next to discuss the advisability of starting a freezing establishment in Poverty Bay. It is high time we had progressed a step in this direction, and even if the meeting is without immediate result—which we earnestly hope it will not be —there is much to be gained by keeping the subject prominently in view We are not aware what propositions are likely to be made, but it is certain that a man of Mr Evans’ business aptitude will not be unprepared. Looking at things broadly, and not going minutely into all the circumstances, it does seem strange that this district has so long been handicapped out of the trade for which its capabilities so well adapt it. But everything now points to increased success in the frozen meat trade, and some of those directly inteiested ought to be able to devise a scheme by which successful exportation may be made from this district. Not being aware of the details of the scheme which we suppose will be submitted at the meeting on Saturday night we are not in a position to review it, but we trust there will be a large attendance at the meeting and that no half-hearted-ness will be allowed to stand in the way of achieving permanent and beneficial results for all concerned.
