A BOLD STROKE.
The report of the special committee on the Bank of New Zealand’s affairs will be a bitter pill for the shareholders to swallow, and surely there could be no more conclusive or convincing evidence of the desperate, position of the colony. Who can call “ croakers ” for what we have said, now that the sorrowful illustration conveyed in the report is before us. But, all things being considered, the special committee have done a service to the bank and a service to the colony. The prospect is black, but it is far better for a bold stroke to be made and the position faced than for a continual shuffle to be carried on. The best remedy is to let the truth be known, and to have the difficulties honestly met.
