PARLIAMENT PROROGUED.

THE FINAL SCENE. Wellington, last night. After many vicissitudes the Government again breathe freely, for they have six months more at least of the sweets of office and rest after the harassing four months they have spent. The winding up was a very slow affair indeed, and was hardly enlivened by a single incident. During the morning the members were kept hanging about, not so much because there was any business to do as that it was necessary to obtain the Governor's assent to Bills that had been passed, and this not being immediately obtainable it was decided to adjourn till 3 o'clock; when any few remaining matters might, if possible, be brought forward and cleared up. When the House met, however, there was nothing to be done, and after the Bills which had been assented to had been notified to the members by message, the Premier rose and intimated that the prorogation would be formally made 1 in the Gazette. He moved that the Honw 1 adjourn for a week, which of course meani that there would be no members to resume business; but some jocular members, with a view to showing that they were to finish, called for a division. The Speaker did not see any joke about it, however, and refused to allow it, declaring the House adjourned. This brought the proededings to a close, and members returned to pack up their valuables and get away. Altogether there were thirty-one members present at the final scene, but the House had a very washed-out appearance.
