POLITICAL NOTES.

[fbom oub own cobbespokdent.J Wellington, last night. The Harbor Act Amendment Bill, which provided that the Government should take over the New Plymouth, Waitara, and Pates harbors, was rejected by 44 to 16. A rumor was current to-day that as one of the first consequences of the rejection of the Harbor Bill, the New Plymouth Harbor will be unable to meet its engagements, in which case the Government will appoint a Receiver to collect revenues. In addition to the Government measures dropped, no fewer than thirty-seven Bills, owned by private members, have been condemned to oblivion. No arrangements have yet been come to between the two Chambers as to the Chinese Immigrants Bill. It is probable afresh Conference will be proposed. The Freetraders are not going to be outdone by Protectionists. They propose to hold a Freetrade banquet before the end of the session.
