The Patutahi Trouble.

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sib,—l am rather astonished at the position you take up on a question which has been the cause of much agitation in this district, and that you should publish a report which appears to have a leaning, a considerable leaning, to one side. Clearly you are not behind the scenes or you would not mistake public house influence for a healthy public feeling. You or anybody ought to know how a meeting may be swayed when popular people take up a line of action without giving it due consideration. I may say at once that I am not a member of the Committee, but I would like to know in what they have acted wrongly. The majority of the Committee must have the control of business. What were the Committee elected for? Were they so bad as some wish to paint them why were they elected at all ? I challenge anyone to produce anything that can be used to sully the character of the Committeemen who have been subjected to this gross snub : unfortunately as much cannot be said in other directions, “Guilty or not guilty?” aye, that is the way to put it in both cases. Instead of resigning I think the Committee •hould ask for an impartial enquiry and then we might have a decision freed from any personal feeling or secondary influence.—l am &o.' Unbiassed. ’Some of our correspondent's inuendoes certainly do not seem to spring from an “ un. biassed ” mind, but we leave, it to those directly oonceined to make their own reply. Still such aspersions are not likely to lead to an amicable settlement of the question.—Ed,]
