COUNTY COUNCIL.

The County Council held a meeting yesterterday afternoon. Present; Crs Clark (Chair man), King, Twohy, Stubbs, Wethered, Orr, Murphy, and Coleman. A charging order against money due to G. Bell was accepted. The Education Board refused to subsidise the Waiapu ferry. —Or Stubbs said the ordinary traffic could go across the Waiapu river without being ferried.—lt was decided to inform the School Committee of the Board’s decision.

The Standing Orders were suspended to hear a petition from the settlers of Patutahi asking that a track be formed over Gentle Annie.—Agreed to ask Government to reserve line of track and give the Oouncil leave to lay off a road. It was agreed that the Council should give every assistance to Mr McCallum, the dairy factory expert, who would shortly visit the district.

A petition from settlers in the Waikohu Riding, asking the Council to erect a pound at Karaka, was referred to the Waikohu Road Board, Regarding the Council’s financial position, Cr Coleman said while the revenue had decreased to one-half the charges had proportionately increased. He proposed that the general rate be made Jd.—Cr King suggested that Ad rate be struck, as times were hard, and moved to. that effect,—Cr Murphy seconded. —Carried. Cr Stubbs advocated that the by-law re tires be made special for the Waimata Road, and gave notice to move that 2Jin tires should carry not more than locwt; Sin, 20cwt; din, 25owt; Sin, SOowt; Gin 35cwt. Other unimportant business was transacted.
