GLADSTONE’S SPEECH.
OPPOSES PROTECTION. HOPES ENGLAND WILL NOT ENTER EUROPEAN WAR. ATTACKS SALISBURY. London, December 29. Mr Gladstone iu a apeeon al Dover strongly opposed Protection, which he thought had died twenty years ago. He complained of the Maiquis of Salisbury’s ambiguous remarks ou the Proteoliun question. Referring to the distuibed state of Europe he said he trusted that England would ref.ain from interfering in any European quarrel.
