The Te Kooti Scare.

HE IS COMING. HIS FOLLOWERS NOW ON THE WAY. Notwithstanding the distinct pro* tn tee made by Te Kooti to the Government that he would not visit this district, it is stated on good authority that the ex-rebel, with his followers left on Friday last for the East Coash Thia information was conveyed to some of the natives, who follow bis religion, by telegram. In answer to enquiries it is stated by some of the natives that the report is absolutely true, while others say that he does not intend to come so far as Poverty

Bay. Without wishing to in anyway become alarmists we give this information as we have received it. It is open to much doubt that Te Kooti has broken his word to the Government, but if he has it is to be deplored, the consequences will and certainly be on bis own head. He got a distinct warning from the Government that the feeling here was against his presence, and on his becoming bounceable—claiming his right to come—be was told that the Government would in no way be responsible for any injury that might be done him. This seemed to have brought the arch-flend to his senses, for he immediately said he would not come. The party will be here during the week, and whether Te Kooti is amongst the number or not remains to be seen.
