Mr and Mrs Mountain.
The nine day’s mission, conducted by the Mr and Mrs Mountain, came to a conclusion last evening. On Sabbath morning at 10 a,m. Mr and Mrs Mountain held a young people’s meeting. At 11 o’clock Mr Mountain preached, taking as his subject “ Blind Bartimeus." The congregation was fairly large, and they listened with wrapt attention to the sermon. In the afternoon a united Sabbath School service was held in Holy Trinity Church. In the evening the seating capacity of the Presbyterian church was taxed to its utmost to provide accommodation for the large number that attended. Mr and Mrs Mountain chose as a subject to preach from " Water of life.” The subject was handled in a masterly manner and overflowed with beautiful simile and was pressed home to the hearers with earnestness. After the service Mr Mountain intimated that he would give an account of his own conversion to all who wished to remain. Nearly the whole of the congregation accepted the invitation. In a plain, simple way he explained how he found the Saviour. Following this a meeting was held in the vestry for those who wished to learn more about the way to salvation.
The church was filled last night, the subject being “ The Happy Home: Who is there? what are they doing? and, how did they get there?” Mrs Mountain followed, and gave an excellent address. At the request of the Kirk Session Mr Mountain has kindly consented to lake part in the Thanksgiving Service on Thursday night, and will deliver an address. He leaves Gisborne by Friday’s steamer. x
