SPORTING NEWS.

NOTES BY •’ WILLOW.”

Visits to the course these flue summer mornings are most enjoyable and the work being done at Waerenga-a-hika affords one pleasure not alone for the excellent work done but the appetite it gives for breakfast. However the keen interest in the latter is almost forgotten when you see Lennell'a craeks, Fitz James and Nora at work. On Tuesday morning last, although they only did slow work for a couple of miles, the manner in which they moved gave conclusive proof that their preparation is being most carefully attended to. Nina followed over the same distance but scarcely seams as forward as she should be. Cairngorm (in stockings) cantered about three miles slow, JJancy and Mr Sunderland’s really first class bay hack did a couple of miles fast, the latter showing that he is a goer of a long way more than average ability. A grey hack did a couple of miles steady. Pouawa, Chiquita and another did a mile, going well, at the end of which the former pulled up, leaving the latter to go an additional one. On Friday morning the first to put in an appearance was P. Malone with a string of five, including Bit of Blue, Parnell and Off Chance,—close upon his heels was Burnand with Longwaist and a bay hack. The performance of the seven was Very good indeed. LinneU’s cracks followed and as usual gave to each onlooker and admirer complete satisfaction, W. Bailey next proceeded to work Gipsy and was followed by Nina. The proposed Pace Park has de. veloped from being merely a suggestion into a growing certainty, Its successful birth ‘is now almost ensured

and its growth, on the lines laid down by the promoters, cannot but show that the idea was a most happy one. The central position of the proposed course is alike easy of access from both town and country, and this being so, will assuredly bring in a much more satisfactory revenue than our local clubs have of late obtained. Mr F. J. Piesse has, I am given to understand, undertaken ell the necessary steps for the Government accouchment of the company. I may say en passant that the Boxing Day meeting promises to be a most enjoyable one. The course is in splendid order, the entries numerous, and the weather almost certain to be fine A.B.C.
