HARBOR BOARD.

The usual meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening, there being presents The Chairman, Major Porter, and Messrs Chambers, Matthewson, Townley, Dickson, Sunderland, and McDonald. It was decided to take a telegraph code, price 15s, from McEwen & Co., ’ and also to agree tt> the re-adjustment of the boundariesof Matawhero C, CEMEjrr: bkmissioN of duties. The Engineer reported:— The supply of cement was used up on Monday the 12th, and ou Friday the steamer brought another supply, but it was the Tuesday following before bloekmaking began Sgiin. Owing to one of the brands turning out to be damaged, I refused to take delivrry of tame. The contractors then aaked for it to be. Stored at their cost and risk, which was done. They also agreed to supply by Australia sufficient cement to make up fur that damaged. Owing to thia and two days of wet weather we only made 18 blocks in the yard and one 100 ton block at the end of the breastwork.

The Collector of Customs telegraphed that he would allow the cement on the Blair Drummond to be admitted free, on the first entry on the Board specifying that it was to be employed for harbour works only. Page write, forwarding bill of coats of £2O 9. 4d, in oon ueotion with tho loan cf £3,700 The Committee consider that thia amount should have been deducted from the amount of the loan, and therefore the Board is not liable.—Sinking Fund Commissioners forward bill of costa for £36 la fid for defending them against the action brought by John Baldwin, The Committee recommend that this account bo paid, and they recommend also that in future the Commiaioners be requested to consult the Board before incuring legal charges.—Wharfinger's application for In crease of aala V I —The Committee carefully considered the application, and taking into consideration the fact that the work has increased and the revenue doubled owing to the new tariff, they recommend that the Board favorably entertain the application. The report was adopted. On the motion of Mr McDonald, MeOnded by Mr Sunderland, the Wharfinger’s salary was increased to XT2OO per annum. engineer's eepobt. The following was adopted, excepting with reference to the alleged wasting, which was allowed to stand over: A cargo of coals has been received from Johnston,—Mr Bailey has sent both boats as tendered for.—The Blair Drummond with the remainder of the maohin.-ry and some oemeat came into the bay last night, and I hope will begin discharging to morrow.— With regard to getting stone, it has always been understood that it was to be done by contract, and tn lotting the present work four tenders wore received to make a commencement. The specification for a contract is almost finished and tenders could be called next Board moeticg if desirable.—lt would be almost impossible to ssy whether the viaduct wonld aauae a slight inerease of swell in the river or not. With a westerly swell, which can never be great, a slight increase might be expected, but whether there has been any increased washing away as compared with recent severe winters would be a matter of evidence alone.
