BREAKDOWN OF STEAMER

THE S.S. MACGREGOR MISSING. Auckland, last night. The s.s. Macgregor, one of the Northern Company’s boats, is missing. She broke down off Waitara on Friday night in a heavy gale, losing her rudder, stern-post, and propeller. She was taken in tow by the s.s. Gairloch, but when near the Manakau bar the hawsers broke and nothing has been heard of her since. The Staffs has gone to look for her, and there is great anxiety as to her fate, as the weather was very heavy at the time.
