HARBOR BOARD.
A msetinu of the Harbor Board was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs Sievwright (chair), Townley, McDonald, Matthewson, Dickson, Chambers, Gannon, and Sunderland. MINUTES. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed. COBaESPONDEXCffI.
From the Board’s solicitor, enclosing bill of costs in the Baldwin v. Graham case. The costs tf'ere stated at £ll3 3s 6d. The letter wav referred to the Finance Committee. From Mr J. W. Carr, Auckland, asking whether he could temper by wire tor the boats required bjr the Board, As the enquirer had evidently made some mistake as to the date, thu Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Carr giving the information required. From P. Barker re supply of stone to the breakwater. This letter had been previously discussed by the Public Works Committee, whose report will be found below.
PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. The report of the above Committee was read as follows• The Engineer’s report was read on the subject of the 1000 casks of cement required immediately. Until the arrival of the Blair Drummond the committee recommend ths Board io apply for quotations from firms in. New Zealand for the supply of cement, and that the committee deal with the same on ifiCelpi. On the subject of Mr P. Barker's letter re stone supply— the letter was read and The Engin eer having stated that in his opinion the coat of the tramway wonld be about £16,000, am? there being contingent liabilities and difficulties- to the Board, the committee considered it too late to entertain Mr Barker's proposal, especially as the Board's tramway is complete and the works are in progress.
After some discussion the report was adopted, the question of the shone supply, however, being deferred until the next meeting of the Board. FINANCE COMMITTEE'S BEPOBT. The report of the above Committee was read as follows :— Be the deposit of £5O on the Block Moulds contract, and the application by Captain Tucker for a refund of the marked cheque : The Engineer explained the position of the matter, and Captain Tucker was also heard. Th* Engineer produced a statement showing the amount due and payable under the contract by which it appeared that there is only a balance of £lO as lid due to tbit contractors. The Committee agreed to refe r the matter to the Board, along with Contain Tucker’s letter of this date.
Some discussion took place as to the application from Captain Tucker td the deposit of L5O on the block mould contract. It was eventually decided to leave the matter over until the next meeting. PAYMENTS. The following amounts were passed for payment: —
