National Candidate At Harihari
Mr P. J. O’Regan, National Party candidate,, spoke on Thursday night at Harihari to an audience of similar size to one of 35 which he addressed the previous evening at Waiho. He said: “In to-day’s ‘Grey River Argus’ there is some comical propaganda. The leading article —a long rigmarole —is directed to the importance of the family. It does not explain why the Labour Party, amended the Electoral Act to ignore all of the population under 21 in the computation of the electoral quotas”. The result of this move, he said; was that the influence of the family was'-never lower in the history 01 New Zealand than it was to-day. In another column in the same edition of the paper, Mr Fraser complained of “personalities” and of a rellection on the personal appearance of a Labour candidate. Mr McLagan, tracing the alleged connection of the present Nationalists with the old Tory party had referred to them as the same litter but different sized pigs. This remark afforded a very good clue to his breeding. A third article of interest in the “Argus” that day contained an interesting manifesto from the Federation of Labour. Mr Nash, the hero of the Holmes case, addressed that illustrious body. Evidently lie was at pains to explain that the’National Party was a greater menace than the Government because a’ small minority was in favour of supporting neither political party. The Minister of Labour (Mr McLagan) did not assume this responsibility. The people would be gratified to learn that the Federation of Labour intends to abide by the expressed will of the electors.
