DUNOLLI E At the monthly meeting of the Dunollie Women’s Institute held in tiie St. John’s Hall, there was a good attendance. Mrs. R. Barker presided and welcomed four visitors and five new members. The motto for the month was “If humble pie has to be eaten, bolt it whole.” Mrs. Webster was presented with a birthday spray. Mrs. Smart demonstrated dollmaking. Mrs. Tinning gave a report on the Half-yeavly meeting of Institutes held at Stillwater and also gave the Golden Thread talk. Arrangements are well in hand for 1 he Xmas party. Mrs. Boote won the social competition. and other competitions resulted: Dross made hy a member: Mesdames Smith. Boote. Heslin, Tinning, B. Baker and Hamblv, all equal. Date loaf: Mesdames Boote 1, Hamblv 2, Brown 3. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Warwick, Webster, Watson and Svme. GREYMOUTH At the monthly meeting of Greymouth Women’s Institute at the Lyceum Hall, Mrs M. McKnight presided over a good attendance. One new member was enrolled. A “Golden Thread” talk (“Women in China”) was given by Mrs Pound. Pennies for International Day was well responded to. The president spoke on Miss Iris Crook’s visit to Greymouth, and Mrs Smart spoke on the reception given in honour of Lady Freyberg. Greetings were received from the Taumaru.nui and Paeroa Women’s Institutes. A practical demonstration, “remodelling hats”, was given by Mrs McKnight, and proved most interesting. A social was held in recognition of work done by Mesdames F. Taylor and W. Green for choral and drama festivals. Mrs Kennedy won a mystery parcel. The hostesses were Mesdames Denson. Mathias, Taylor and Aiderton. Competition winners were: Poppies, Miss Aston 1, Mrs Bradlev 2; patchwork apron, Mrs Perrin'l. Mrs McKnight 2, Mrs Smith 3: ginger biscuits, Mrs Johnson 1, Mrs McKnight 2, Mrs Green 3; bloom, Mrs Bradlev 1, Mrs Johnson 2, Mrs Mathias and Mrs Perrin (equal) 3. KOTUKU The monthly meeting of the Kotuku Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Breretmi, who gave a report on the half yearly meeting held at Stillwater. “Pennies for Friendship” were handed in. The roll call lor the evening was an exchange of plants. Mrs Guonole won the “Wandering Shilling”, and Mrs J. Molloy was the winner of a handwork competition (a handkerchief from a salt bag), with Mi-.s Brereton second. Birthday sprays were presented to Mesdames Guenolc, Bell. Nestor, and W. Dalzell. Mesdam os Priest and Nestor conducted the social half hour, games being won by Mesdames Guenole. W. Brereton, P. Brereton and J. Dalzell. Supper was served bv the hostesses, Mesdames Bell and Brereton.
