Aero Club Plane Damaged at Karamea

A Tiger Moth ’plane, the property of West Coast United Aero Club Inc. was involved in a slight mishap at Karamea on Sunday afternoon. A young trainee pilot, of the Westport Aero Club, while attempting to land on the Karamea ’drome, misjudged slightly and one of the plane’s wheels was clipped off when it came in contact with a fencing post belonging to the aerodrome boundary. The pilot managed, however, to land the plane on the remaining wheel and tail skid. When the plane lost speed the wing dropped and hit the ground slewing the aircraft around with the propellor digging deep furrows in the earth. The pilot had a very lucky escape from injury. He climbed irom the plane uninjured, but badly shaken The plane was considerably damaged and will have to be railed to Christchurch to be repaired. It, is expected chat the plane will be back in commission in three weeks time.
