West Coaster Wins A N.Z. Title
One of three West Coast athletes competing at the New Zealand amateur weight-lifting championships at Dunedin, F. R. May, of Kaiata, won the bantam-weight title, with a total lift of 4001bs. He had previously won the title in 1941. In view of the forthcoming Empire Games at Auckland, the performances at the championship were watched with more than use 1 interest. E. C. Carter, a young West Coaster, show. 1 considerable promise in the hea\ weight division, being run-ner-up I i B. R. George (who lifted 7201 b), \ _h a lift of 6401 m. In win .lug his title, May gave the following performances:—Press 120 lb., snatch 1201 b., and clean and jerk 1601 b.
