Mr Kent Given Enthusiastic Reception At Harihari
Continuing his campaign in South Westland, Mr J. B. Kent, M.P. addressed a large attendance in the Harihari hall on Thursday evening. .Mr E. Kirby, Snr., presided. Mr Kent dealt with the Government legislation affecting farmers, the social security scheme, pensions and rehabilitation. The pamphlet recently issued by the ’ Nationalist Party comprised in its entirety a tissue of lies and half truths said the speaker. He outlined the various stages of development in the country since the Labour Party had 1 come into power, after which the audience applauded loudly. Mr Kent dealt at length with the Government’s policy in relation to the farmers. His address was on similar*"' lines to those of his previous address in the southern portion of the electorate. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr G. Rowley, Jnr., moved the following resolution which was carried with applause: “That Mr Kent be thanked for his able speech and for his good sei vices since being elected representative for Westland and that the Government be especially thanked on behalf of the returned servicemen of the district for keeping the promises made during the war in regard to the rehabilitation of returned men and women.” The resolution was seconded by Mr F. Haddock and on being put to the meeting was carried unanimously with applause.
