Ancestor of Noted Cricketer Arrives
WELLINGTON, October 11 The forbears of Lady Chance, who arrived with her husband, Sir Robert Chance, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Cumberland, England, at Wellington this 1 week, are notable cricketers. Lady Chance says “every Scot can claim to be a descendant of Robert the Bruce but how many have Test cricketers in their family?’’ Six of her uncles played cricket for Eton, four for Cambridge and three, J, K., and G. B. Studd, played for England. In 1882, G. B. and C. T. Studd were in the English team that brought back the ashes from Australia. Sir Robert’s great-great grand father married Annie Laurie and another of his ancestors was lady-in-waiting to Mary, Queen of Scots.
