Exceptionally keen bidding marked a sale of 11,200 sheep skins in Gisborne this week. Exceptional prices were paid, especially for threequarter and full wool skins. A model A Ford motor truck was converted from its parking place in Tainui Street, Greymouth, on either Wednesday or yesterday, and anyone knowing of its whereabouts is asked to notify the police. The new bus passenger-service from Hokitika to Christchurch is not meeting with the success predicted by its operators at a sitting of the Transport Authority in Christchurch early this year. The company stated yesterday that three passengers were the most they had on any single day. Occasionally there were no passengers making the full journey. The company, however, expected the service.-to “pickup” later in the year, when more people would be travelling on the West Coast.

A wage increase of 2d per hour and better working conditions are sought by the Westland Timber Workers’ Union, which sought a new award at a meeting with the Conciliation Council at Greymouth yesterday. The workers’ representative is Mr F. L. Turley (secretary of the union), and assessors for the union are Messrs J. Reedy, F. Rudkin and J. Craig. Employers’ assessors are Messrs A. Seed, of Wellington (secretary of the Dominion Federated Sawmillers’ Association), A. L. McKay, K. O. May, A. F. Thomson and W. Duncan. The union asks that in some conditions travelling time concession be given under application.

The latest advice about the “Dominion Monarch,” which is bringing the All Blacks home is that she is due at Wellington at ten a.m. to-day, and will berth at 11 a.m.—P.A.

James Rooney had the misfortune to fracture the thumb of his right hand while sparring last evening He was billed to meet C.
