BOXING GOOD PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED FOR BLACKBALL

The professional box.ng match at Blackball on Saturday next has aroused widespread interest. It is some years since a pro fight has been staged in the town, the last being in 1922 when James Carr of Mlillerton fought “Redwing/’ Furness, of Greymouth. Extensive preparations have been made by the club for the forthcoming match and ringside seating accommodation has been completed. Mr Frank O’Neill, of Greymouth, will referee the main bout with Messrs N. Kiely and R. Francis as judges. The referee for the preliminaries will be Mr J. Ramsden. The following preliminary bouts have been announced:—K. Mahuika (Nelson Creek) v. A. Cuotts (Dobson); D. McFayden (Blackball) v. G. Finlay (Greymouth); C. Curtis (Greymouth) v. J. Rooney (Cobden); T. Dillon (Blackball v. D. Palmer (Waiuta); M. Williams (Nelson Creek v. B. Holden (Waiuta); A. Schafer (Blackball) v. W. Freer (Blackball); M. Ord (Nelson Creek) will be matched with a suitable opponent from Christchurch.

LONDON, October 10.

Bos Murphy will replace Ernie Roderick, of Liverpool, who is suffering from influenza, in r fight with Jack Braddock, of Manchester, at Harringay Stadium to-morrow. Murphy has returned to his old welterweight division, and will be fighting Braddock at lOst 101 b.

OTTAWA, October 10

Four boxers have been named to represent Canada at the Empire Games in Auckland in 1950. They are Eddie Haddad ,of British Columbia (light-weight champion); Frankie White, of Winnipeg (feather-weigni champion); Gord Wallace, of Ontario (middle-weight champion); and Len Walters, of Vancouver (bantamweight). The selection committee named four additional fighters in the event of sufficient funds being raised. They are the fly-weight champion Ronnie Muir; the welter-weig'ht champion Alex Mason; the light-heavy-weight champion, Frank, Creachan; and the heavy-weight champion, Jimmy Saunders
