BIG KARACHI STRIKE OVER SMALL MATTER

The Sind Union of Journalists has called a token general strike in the newspapers and news agencies throughout Pakistan to-day. The strike was a protest against “misbehaviour” on October 5 by the general manager of the Karachi Daily “The Sind Observer” in a dispute with a member of the editorial staff. His colleagues demanded an apology, which was declined. The staff then went on a stay-in strike. The Pakistan Government intervened yesterday, but the negotiations broke down. Other press workers Municipal employees, port trust workers and newsvendors have now jorned the strike. The “Sind Observer” has had to suspend publication indefinitely in spite of the managements recruiting of a fresh staff.
