LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR ROSKILL SEAT
P.A. AUCKLAND, October 6. Mr James Freeman, immediate past-president of the Auckland Trades Council, has been selected as the official Labour Party candidate for the Roskill electorate. The choice was announced to-night, after a meeting of the members of the branches of the Party in the Roskill electorate, which was attended by the national president and the national secretary, Mr J. Roberts and Mr A. McDonald.
The spokesman said that the meeting was a large one. Mr Freeman recently returned to the Dominion via Norway, Sweden and Britain, after attending the World Forestry Conference, which was held in July at Helsinki, Frhland. He is vice-president of the New Zealand Timber Workers’ Union. He contested Remuera seat at the 1946 election. He is aged 49 years. Roskill seat is held by Mr F. Langstone (Independent Labour), who resigned from the Parliamentary Labour Party after the referendum on compulsory military training. Other candidates in the field are Mr J. Rae (National), and Mr J. B. Kennedy (Independent Liberal).
