TARANAKI FARMER’S HEAVY FIRE LOSS

P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, October 6. Damage estimated at between £3OOO and £4OOO resulted from a fire that occurred on H. M. Taylor’s farm at Tariki to-night. The damage would have been much greater but for the efforts of a hastily-formed bucket brigade, which was later reinforced by the Inglewood fire brigade. The brigade had to travel about 10 miles. The outbreak was first noticed in a truck housed between implement and cow sheds. Fanned by a stiff northerly wind, it soon began to spread towards the sheds. When the brigade arrived it was too late to save the implement shed, in which drums of benzine made the task more difficult, and the building, which was about 80 feet by 40 feet, was completely gutted. It contained a great deal of valuable farm machinery, part of which had arrived only two days before.
