Australia’s Uranium Field
SYDNEY, October- 5. Geologists of the Bureau of Mineral Resources have confirmed the existence of a field of uranium ore 60 miles south of Darwin. The Minister of Supply and Development, Senator J. I. Armstrong, said that two officers were making tests in the area. The prospector who discovered the field will be eligible for the reward of £lOOO if the deposits can be mined economically. If 25 tons of uranium can be recovered, he will get a further £lOOO. Senator Armstrong said that he recently inspected a number of prospective uranium fields. There were deposits of enormous bulk at Mount Painter, in South Australia. Radium Hill, 70 miles west of Broken Hill, in South Australia, was a very promising field, which was being intensely investigated by the South Australian Government. Another deposit rich >n concentrates was in Hart’s Ranges, 180 miles north-east of Alice Springs.
