Young Man’s False Pretences
P.A. TIMARU, September 28. How a young man had visited Timaru, Waimate, and Temuka and, on 16 different occasions within the space of a few days, had collected money amounting to £3l by falsely representing that he was an authorised agent of a South Island woollen mill, was described by Senior Detective J. Hill in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court. Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., was on the bench. The accused, whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty to charges of false pretences in that he had represented that h e was an agent of a woollen mill with authority to sell its goods and to collect money on the firm’s behalf on 16 different occasions in Timaru, Waimate and Temuka. He also pleaded guilty to three charges of theft in Dunedin of goods valued at £2O, and a sum of £3 in money.
The Magistrate admitted the accused to probation for two years with special conditions.
