ANNUAL MEETING OF GREYMOUTH TROTTING CLUB

There was an attendance of over 60 members at the annual meeting of the Greymouth Trotting Club (Incorporated) last evening, in Harker’s cabaret. The president, Mr J. Steele, in his annual report said that, unsettled weather had marred the last October fixture affecting the attendance considerably. A good deal of maintenance work was carried out on the buildings and track which provided a good surface. Tearooms would now cater for the public in the otuside enclosure. The building had been lined and a hot water system had been installed. Hot showers, had been installed in the drivers’ rooms. A survey of the track had shown that it met all requirements. He suggested to the newly-elected committee that they tai’ seal the road into the ground and around the totalisator. In wet weather these became very muddy. Thanking the committee, he specially thanked Mr J. O’Donnell, the judges, and caretaker and the secretary who well deserved thanks. The balance sheet was read and adopted. The treasurer in his report gave the following figures in regard to the club’s activities during the year with 1946-47-48 figures for comparison. Nett profit:—l946, £2388; 1947, £ll3 (plus £B2l for track improvements); 1948, £924 (plus £643 for track improvements); 1949 £906. Gates:—l946, £2266; 1947, £2210; 1948, £2113; 1949, £lBO3. Totalisator turnovers: —1946, £19,701; 1947, £lB,670; 1948. £18,450; 1949, £17,528. Nominations and acceptances:— 1946, £1580: 1947, £1973; 1948, £2366; 1949, £2557. He said that the club’s mortgage liability had been reduced by ‘£3500 since 1946, when it had stood at £12,500. Mi- C. L. Herring was appointed) auditor at a fee of 10 guineas. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Considerable interest was shown in the election of the committee. Three members who retired by rotation, Messrs 1 E. W. Miller, J. O’Donnell and J. Saunders offered them'selves for re-election. Three new nominations were received .Dr B. W. Nixon, and Messrs C. R. McGinley and J. H. Kennedy. The result of the ballot was the election of Messrs J. Saunders, E. W. Miller, C R- McGinley, and J. O’Donnell. The following officers were elected unopposed:—President, Mrs J. Steel: vice-pres’dents, Messrs E. McDonnell and T. Oxenham and F. McGregor (life member), and treasurer, Mr W. E. J. Steer.
