N.S.W. CREATING NEW OFFENCE—"CULPABLE DRIVING”

(Rec. 9.10) SYDNEY, Aug. 19 Alarmed by an increasing toll of road accidents, the State AttorneyGeneral, Mr C. E. Martin, has prepared a draft bill creating a new offence of the “culpable driving,” and prescribing three years’ imprisonment for drivers found guilty of causing bodily harm; and seven years where death occurs. Under the new proposal, immediately that the Crown proves that a driver causing death or bodily harm was intoxicated, the responsibility is placed on the accused.
