Mr Goldsmith, newly-apointed poultry instructor for the Department of Agriculture, will be making ffiis first visit to the West Coast early in the coming month.
Lieutenant-General J. F. M. Whiteley has been appointed Deputy Chief of the British Imperial General Staff, in succession to 1 Lieutenant-General Sir Kenneth Crawford, who becomes Controller of Supplies (munitions).
The Rev. W .B. and Mrs Beattie will be farewelled by the parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, after Evensong to-morrow. They leave on Monday morning for Nelson, where on Wednesday (St Bartholomew’s Day), Mr Beattie will be ordained to the priesthood by the Bishop of Nelson. The Vicar of Greymouth, Rev. K. G. Aubrey, will preach the ordination sermon.
The West Coast basketball team left by last evening's rail-par for Dunedin where they will compete in-, the New Zealand championships. A large crowd of well-wishers assembled at the railway station to bid farewell and they gave three cheers for the team’s success.
