Meates Ranked Highly in Rugby Almanac
WELLINGTON, March 23. Three of the All Blacks who are to tom- South Africa, one who was selected but withdrew from the team, and a part-Maorl, who was ineligible for the' South African tour, were chosen as the five Rugby players io" 1948 in the “New Zealand Rugby Almanac” annual. They are J. C. Kearney, five eighths; W. A. Meates wing three-quarter, and R. A. Dalton front row forward (all Otago) who are to tour South Africa; V. D. Bevan (Wellintgon), All Black scrum half to Australia in 1947, -who was ineligible for South Africa; and W. G. Argus (Canterbury), Second N.Z.E.F.' and All Black winger, who withdrew from the South African tour because- of family and business reasons.
The five most promising players • making their first appearance as representatives last season are named a-< B. W. Beasley (North Auckland). K. C. Stuart (Canterbury), John I-lotop (Bush), G. F. Turner (Nelson), and G. M. Biyant, (Horowhenua).
