Auckland Has Profitable Season
The net profit of £234 made by the Auckland Rugby Union last season increased its accumulated funds to £ll.677 and the receipts of £4989 at club matches were a record in the 65 years of the union’s activitv. An amount of £6845 included in the union’s assets of £13,227 is invested in national savings. These and other indications of a highly successful season are mentioned by the chairman of the management committee, Mr G. Orrell, in the
report he will present at the annual meeting. “The union can now be said to be in a very satisfactory financial position,” Mr Orrell states, “but all ecorts must be made further to improve the position. The nurchase of Remuera ground and the development of Rugby Park, Mount Roskill, will require an immense amount of finance.”
Dealing with the question of Eden Park, Mr Orrell states that since the special general meeting of delegates in November no further headway has been made in the negotiations with the Auckland Cricket Association. Intervening holidays to an extent have prevented this, but the union actually has had no official reply from the Auckland Cricket Association to the union’s suggestions in relation to partition. “The new management committee must continue to pursue actively efforts to obtain just and satisfactory arrangements in relation to the park,” Mr Orrell says. The principal items in the income of £12,2'42 were clubs receipts, £4OBO, representative receipts, £4815, and broadcasting and programme -fees. £1037. Main items of expenditure were representative expenses, £1475, ground charges, £lOlO, and Eden Park board of control, £lOOO. Amusement tax accounted for £9lB.
