N.Z. Minister Advocates Negotiation with Doctors
(Rec 11.0) CANBERRA, March 23. The New Zealand Government'and the B.M.A. had agreed on most points of New Zealand’s National Health Scheme, said the Minister of Social Security, the Hon. W. E. Parry today.
“Mv advice to Australia is that nothing can be lost by negotiation at any time with the people with whom they are trying to work,” he added.
The New Zealand practice was to try to reach common agreement, although they might not agree on every point.
Mr Parry said that the New Zealand health scheme was working well but he admitted that some problems had arisen as a result of the practical application of the plan. It needed to be brought up to date to meet these problems. The Minister said that he would not advise the Australian Government how to run its national health scheme. He felt the Australian Government could work out a formula in the same way as they had done in New Zealand. The Australian Government had not sought any suggestions from him.
