GAOL FOR RUNNING TWO-UP SCHOOL

AUCKLAND, March 23

Eighteen men and four women, arrested in a police raid on a two-up school at Freeman’s Bay on Monday evening, appeared in the Magistrate’s Coure. Francis George Zimmerman, aged 27, a contractor, was sent to gaol for one month on a common gaming-house charge. William Joseph Gee, aged 45, a wharf labourer, occupier of the premises, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. The other 20 accused were fined sums ranging from £2 to £5.
