CYCLING Australians Win at Auckland

P.A. AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. The Australian cyclists, S. Patterson and K. Reynolds, finished their tour of New Zealand on a high note by the domination of the Auckland Centre carnival held in their honour at Western Springs Stadium yesterday. Patterson demonstrated his superior class by defeating the national half-mile grass track champion, E. L. G. Hughes, by a length, after being two lengths behind with 200 yards to go. In a special tandem-paced mile, Patterson recorded his best time of the tour with figures of 12.6 secs. for the final 220 yards. In a five miles race, Patterson had to retire because of a puncture, his first of the tour, and Reynolds, who had previously finished second to Patterson, went on to win. Win for K. Morgan The Grey Cycling Club held a road race from Karoro to Paroa and return on Saturday. A good field of riders contested the event, and a spirited finish saw K. Morgan (off lmin 15sec) just hold off the fast finishing J. Gardner (lmin 15sec). W. Gardner (lmin 40sec) was third. ' M. Bergamini, who covered the distance in 15min 3 2-ssec, secured fastest time.
