Canterourv records were broken and provincial standard equalised, when the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association held the provincial senior championships at Lancaster Park. The Technical athlete J. R. Brown, set the first record with 147 ft Ilin in the hammer throw. Earlier this year Brown set the previous record, 147 ft film. The Greymouth runner, B. Steel again proved his class with a fine run in the SSO yards. Steel took the lead at the bell after covering the first quarter in 57sec, and won comfortably in Imin 57.1 sec. He was un- ♦ officially timed at Imin 56 4-ssec. His time equalled, the Canterbury standard. D. R. Batten completed the double, taking the 100 yards in 10.4 sec-and the 220 yards in 22.8 sec. In the 220 yards Dephoff appeared in have Batten’s measure, but the Varsity runner drew away strongly in. the straight. Dephoff’s run was outstanding, considering he had just completed several jumps in the long jump, to set new Canterbury figures at 22ft 95in. He held the previous record of 22ft B'l ins.

J. C. Daly was not troubled to win the three-mile event, but had to run alone for eleven of the twelve laps and did well to record 15min s.4sec. R. C. Brown, after winning the three mile walk, took the mile walk in Canterbury record time. He covered the distance in 6min 41.45ec., reducing his own record time b v llsecs. A Canterbury record set by T. G. Broadway in-1934 was broken when J. W. Sutherland won the 440 yards in 49.75ec. Broadway’s time was 49.8 sec. B. Steel has been selected for the Canterbury team to run on Wednesday night against the Australian team at Christchurch. AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. Auckland records were broken In the high jump and shot putt events, and equalled in the 220 yards hurdles at tlie Auckland senior track and field championshipsj C. M. Kay won the high jump with 6ft 1 1-Sin, 'which is 5-Bin better than the previous record. D. Culav put the shot 42ft 7in, beating the previous record by' 9:1 in. Derek Steward took the 220 yards hurdles in 25.45ec.
