BURMA SENDS FOR DOCTORS IN HER CRISIS

NEW DELHI, Feb. 25.

The Indian Government has asked representatives of the British, Australian, Pakistan and Ceylon Governments t,o meet to discuss the situation in Burma, where the Karen insurgents are now threatening Mandalay. An official announcement in New Delhi says: “The Governments of the United Kingdom, India and Pakistan have followed with interest recent developments in Burma. Apart from the wider issues involved, the export of Burmese rice may be affected. These Governments have been in close touch with the Burmese Government. As Dr H. V. Evatt (Australia) will be in New Delhi and the United Kingdom Minister of Overseas Trade is in New Delhi now, it is proposed to consider the situation in Burma. The Government of India has invited the Governments of Pakistan and Ceylon to send representatives to this informal meeting on February 28.” . . The correspondent of the British United Press states that it is believed that the Burmese Government has asked the assistance of its neighbours to put down the rising.
