BRISBANE, February 16. As communications ard restored reports of the damage in Northern [ Queensland caused by the cyclonic conditions last Thursday are coming in. Of the 125 homes in Cooktown, only eight escaped damage. The Premier, (Mr E. M. Hanlon) has promised homeless residents all possible assistance. The Shire Clerk (Mr J. H. Kandy) said that unless substantial nelp came from outside, Cooktown would cease to exist. It is considered a miracle that nobody was killed or injured. The storm tore many houses to pieces and soaked all the bedding in tne town. One woman alone in a house with three young children, cowered under a bed while first the kitchen, then the verandah, then the entire roof were torn away. Many buildings appeared to explode upwards and disintegrate m mid-air.
