PRISON ESCAPEES CAUGHT AT OAMARU

DUNEDIN, February 15. William Henry Butcher, aged 22, and Geoffrey William Fisher, agea 29, who escaped from the Dunedin Gaol on Saturday morning by picking the loci: of their cell, were recaptured at 7 a.m. to-day at Oamaru. The capture was made by , Constable Price, of Oamaru, who investigated a disused railway truck and found them sleeping. Both prisoners were each sentenced on Friday morning by Mr Justice Kennedy to three and a half years’ hard labour for a series of breaking and entering and car conversion offences. The prisoners were returned to Dunedin torday under escort and were sentenced to a further six months’ gaol.
